Toranj Learning Centre
With funding from the Community-Led Local Development (CLLD) fund, Toranj Tuition relocated from our original premises at the University of Hull’s Enterprise Centre to a rented building on Bishop Lane in Old Town Hull. In 2021, we relocated again, this time to owned premises on Beverley Road with a loan from Key Fund. From here, we have the space to run classes, community activities and manage our organisational operations on one site. We chose Beverley Road to improve accessibility for our beneficiaries, as this new building is less than half a mile from Paragon Interchange and is close to the postcodes our community participants most commonly live in.
Toranj Learning Centre (TLC) is shared with the Iranian Community of Hull (ICOH) who deliver community services from the building – including their popular Newcomer’s Helpdesk. We currently offer the following facilities to our community beneficiaries and education learners:

Book & magazine loan
During the coronavirus pandemic, Toranj Tuition and ICOH also operated a food bank from TLC for our community beneficiaries. Food parcels were distributed and butcher vouchers given, to ensure beneficiaries could access their correct dietary requirements (i.e., halal, kosher). As of Spring 2022, we are looking into funding to continue this provision for our beneficiaries as food banks are still in high demand across the city.
The ground floor of TLC is used as our community centre, where visitors can access ICOH’s Newcomer’s Helpdesk and our translation services. We also host community events from this space. We have five meeting rooms available at TLC as well as our PC Room, where we run our adult education schemes, tutor training and informal science club experiments.
TLC is currently advertising some of these meeting rooms for rental to other community organisations as office spaces, at a reduced rate. For details, contact info@toranjtuition.org.
ICOH
The Iranian Community of Hull (ICOH) is an Anglo-Iranian voluntary and community group based in Kingston upon Hull that aims to improve the lives of people and communities in the local area. To accomplish this goal, ICOH acts as an intermediary between ethnic and British communities. They provide support services to migrant newcomers, host cultural events, and run heritage programmes that focus on shared history and commemoration.
