Adult Education

Our adult education programmes are divided into multiple levels and themes, designed to suit the learners’ needs. Learners who sign up to our adult education programmes must first sit a placement test, which will ascertain on which course they should enrol. The results of this test will only be disclosed to the learner and tutor.

Class sizes vary depending on the course and can be delivered from Toranj Learning Centre (TLC) or online. Textbooks and materials are provided, which learners may keep after the course has concluded.

Work Plan for Highly Qualified Refugees

TT offers support to beneficiaries who worked in highly qualified professions, e.g. healthcare or engineering, before becoming refugees. To facilitate this, TT offers individualised training and opportunities designed for them to return to their former careers. We place learners in small groups and through pre-course evaluation we tailor sessions to the individuals. The scheme offers the following provision:

1. Confidence Building

TT’s beneficiaries oftentimes have traumatic pasts. (e.g. having fled warzones, persecution or domestic abuse). To build their self-confidence and help them overcome these challenges, TT links them with volunteer role models in the area who work in the same industry and who can inspire beneficiaries and provide practical advice and support.

2. Qualification Recognition

We will help beneficiaries get their overseas qualifications recognised. For beneficiaries who do not need approval to return to their former professionals we can help them get a formal translation of their qualifications.

3. Language

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) results may be required by: industries like healthcare, accounting, engineering, law and finance; Further Education (FE) and HE providers. We can support individuals applying for IELTS through tuition.

4. Specialised Training

Some professions also require individuals take other tests to determine their knowledge in English and their profession. Beneficiaries will receive tuition from TT tutors who are enrolled or recently graduated from degrees in their industry (e.g. healthcare, education, engineering).

5. Work Placement

TT also utilises its links to secure work placements, often in a voluntary position which can lead to paid employment once beneficiaries have acquired their required certificates. We can also secure low-skilled placements so beneficiaries’ can build their career history while completing their courses.

Digital Skills

This course introduces basic digital skills. Learners are taught how to send emails, use word processing software, safely use the internet and produce spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations.

Mathematics
